IUS Commemorates World Cancer Day with Groundbreaking Research Initiatives

In observance of World Cancer Day, the Genetics and Bioengineering (GBE) study program and Research and Development Center (RDC) at the International University of Sarajevo, reaffirms its firm commitment to advancing cancer research and fostering awareness about this critical global health issue. Led by a dedicated cell culture working group at RDC, the GBE study program proudly leads multiple projects aimed at elucidating the challenges of cancer biology and exploring innovative therapeutic strategies. With an extensive collection comprising more than 30 meticulously maintained cell lines, the study program stands at the forefront of transformative research initiatives.

The Cell Culture Laboratory at the IUS RDC, established in 2014, has undertaken numerous projects for PhD, Masters, and Bachelor studies. The laboratories are adequately equipped to facilitate a variety of assays crucial for cancer research. To date, our cell culture team has effectively examined the impact of different phytochemicals, drugs with specific safety profiles, and even specialized targeted therapies on various models of hematological malignancies.

Currently, the research focus is on the following projects:

1. Testing Novel Therapeutics for B and T Cell Lymphoma - GBE study program is actively investigating promising novel therapeutics tailored to combat B and T cell lymphomas, leveraging state-of-the-art methodologies to assess efficacy and safety profiles.
2. Cytotoxicity Evaluation of Various Solvents in Mammalian Cell Lines - Through rigorous cytotoxicity evaluations, researchers are meticulously examining the impact of various solvents on mammalian cell lines, crucial for assessing safety parameters and enhancing biomedical applications.
3. Analysis of Heredity in Breast Cancer Through Genetic Mutation Analysis - The study program is pioneering genetic analyses to unravel the hereditary components of breast cancer, shedding light on the underlying mutations and contributing to personalized treatment strategies.

Supported by funding from the Ministry of Higher Education, the GBE study program underscores its dedication to fostering academic excellence and research innovation at our RDC laboratories. With the active involvement of two PhD students and many Master's students, the study program cultivates a dynamic environment conducive to groundbreaking discoveries. Furthermore, study program members actively contribute to the scientific discourse through the publication of their findings in esteemed journals, amplifying the impact of their research on the global stage.

Beyond scientific inquiry, GBE study program remains steadfast in its mission to raise awareness about cancer and its multifaceted challenges. By championing interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement, the study program aspires to catalyze positive change and drive transformative advancements in cancer research and treatment.
